|Description: The bad news is that all $10,000 bills from 1900 are no longer legal tender. As such, they have no face value. You cannot redeem them for $10,000.
On December 13, 1935 there was a fire at the building where all the redeemed 1900 $10,000 gold certificates had been stored. During the fire some workers at the building threw out thousands of these notes into the street. Pedestrians of course picked them up. Most had already been canceled. Many of the examples you see today have smoke or water damage from the fire control efforts. They are actually quite common.
Whether or not your $10,000 bill from 1900 has been cancelled, it is still just a collectible item. In fact these are the only large sized ten thousand dollar bills that are readily collectible today.
|Variations: There are 8 different varieties of the 1900 $10,000 gold certificate. All issues have a small red seal. Keep in mind that not being cancelled has no bearing on the value. It is all about condition. The signature combinations are as follows:
Lyons – Roberts (rare)
