Description:  This denomination of 1891 treasury note is a bit of an anomaly.  1890 and 1891 treasury notes were printed for most denominations.  Generally speaking the 1890 examples are much rarer than the 1891s.  However, that is not true here.  1891 $1000 treasury notes are about four times tougher rarer than the 1890s.  In fact it is rumored that the 1891 $1000 treasury note set the record (privately) for the highest price paid for a piece of United States currency, at 2.3 million dollars.
