Description:  Twenty dollar gold certificates are normally common and available.  However, the March 3rd 1863 example, as seen below, is very scarce.  These are known as first issue gold certificates.  Only twenty and one hundred dollar notes were issued for the first series.

1863 $20 gold certificates have an eagle perched on the American flag on the left hand side of the bill.  Each note has a red serial number and a spiked red seal.  The backs of these notes are almost all orange.  If you have a note that looks like this, then please tell us about it.
