Description:  1882 $100 value back national bank notes are extremely rare.  They were only printed by two banks, The Winters National Bank of Dayton, Ohio and The Canal-Commercial National Bank of New Orleans, Louisiana.  These are actually more appealing to a large size currency collector that they are to national bank note collectors.  A state collector of Ohio or Louisiana notes most likely won’t want to pay the price needed to obtain one of these notes.  However, people who collect rare large size United States currency are able to pay premiums for truly scarce items like this.

Right now there are five examples of these notes known to exist.  The term value back is derived from the fact that the back of each note states the face value of the bill (see below).  We are interested buyers, please contact us if you have something available.

Variations:  All 1882 $100 value backs were signed by Lyons and Roberts.  There are no varieties.
Inscriptions:  National Currency  –  This Note Is Secured By Bonds Of The United States Or Other Securities  –  Series 1882  –  Will Pay To Bearer One Hundred Dollars on Demand  –  Register of the Treasury  –  Treasurer of the United States  –  This Note is receivable at par in all parts of the United States in payment of all taxes and excises and all other dues to the United States except duties on imports and also for all salaries and other debts and demands owing by the United States to Individuals Corporations & associations within the United States except Interest on Public Debt  –  Counterfeiting or altering this note, or passing any counterfeit of alteration of it, or having in possession any false or counterfeit plate or impression of it, or any paper made in imitation of the paper on which it is printed, is felony, and is punishable by $1,000 fine or 15 years imprisonment at hard labor or both.
