Description:  The first one dollar silver certificate was printed in 1886.  1886 also marked the first time that a piece of United States money featured the portrait of a famous woman.  Martha Washington would later appear on the 1891 silver certificate.  The 1896 one dollar silver certificate shows Martha and George Washington.
