Description:  There are three different years found on series of 1918 one dollar bills.  Despite also saying 1914 and 1913, these are referred to by collectors are 1918 federal reserve bank notes.  Collectors have given this note the nickname of the “Flying Eagle.”  The back of the note shows why the bill received its nickname.

Keep in mind that series of 1918 one dollar federal reserve bank notes were issued for 12 different banks; they won’t all say Chicago like the example below.  The artwork will all be the same though.  George Washington is on the left hand side of the bill.  There is a blue seal on the right hand side of the bill and the serial numbers are in blue ink.

If your series of 1918 one dollar federal reserve bank note has a star symbol in the serial number, it will command a premium.  You can learn more about 1918 $1 star notes here.

Variations:  Fortunately, 1918 ones can only be signed by Teehee & Burke or Elliott & Burke on the treasury side.

However, series of 1918 one dollar notes were issued for all twelve different federal reserve banks.  So that means that each bank had its own cashier and governor sign each note as well.  They are as follows:

Boston – Bullen, Morss, Willett
New York – Sailer, Strong, Hendricks
Philadelphia – Hardt, Passmore, Dyer, Norris
Cleveland – Baxter, Fancher, Davis
Richmond – Keesee, Seay
Atlanta – Pike, McCord, Bell, Wellborn
Chicago – McCloud, McDougal, Cramer
St. Louis – Attebery, Wells, Biggs, White
Minneapolis – Cook, Wold, Young
Kansas City – Anderson, Miller, Helm
Dallas – Talley, Van Zandt, Lawder
San Francisco – Clerk, Lynch, Calkins, Ambrose

In total there are 39 different signature combinations for 1918 one dollar federal reserve notes.  A couple of the combinations are rare.  Send us pictures of your note and we can check to see if you have the rare combination.
