Series of 1928 $1 Red Seal Star Note – Values and Pricing

The 1928 $1 red seal star note comes in two grades, affordable and very expensive.  There are about two dozen extremely high grade 1928 $1 red seal star notes known to exist.  These legal tender stars range in grade from choice uncirculated to gem uncirculated.  A note from this uncirculated run will start at $15,000.

The other 1928 $1 star notes tend to be very low grade.  A heavily circulated 1928 red seal $1 star note can be bought for less than $2,000 when they are available.  There is even a heavily circulated serial number two star note out there.  Fancy serial numbers, even in an already rare issue, will always command a premium.

It is thought that about 8,000 1928 $1 star notes were printed for the legal tender series.  If it were not for the many high grade examples, this note would be a classic rarity.  However, it is still a rare note and fun to see.
