Series of 1928 Two Dollar Bill – Red Seal Legal Tender – Values and Pricing
The series of 1928 $2 red seal legal tender note was the first of the 1928 series to be printed. This is the only 1928 $2 without a letter suffix. These notes are very common.
A heavily circulated 1928 two dollar bill should cost around $5. A lightly circulated 1928 two dollar bill will never cost more than $20. You can buy an uncirculated 1928 $2 red seal graded by a third party for around $75.
Fortunately for collectors there is one very positive thing about the series of 1928 two dollar bills. Since these were the first small size two dollar bills printed, both the star notes and regular issues can have very low serial numbers. Both serial numbers started at 00000001, and the serial number 1 regular issue note is known to exist.
In total at least 50 million regular issue 1928 $2 red seals were printed.
Like all red seal two dollar legal tender notes, the series of 1928 $2 notes features Thomas Jefferson on the front and Monticello on the back.
All 1928 two dollar bills were printed in 1928 and for a few days in January 1929. 1928 notes are signed by AW Mellon and HT Tate.
