Ten dollar notes are the only denomination in the North Africa series to have two different types. There are 1934s and 1934As. Regular 1934s are much rarer than the commonly encountered 1934As. Due to this parity in pricing, 1934 $10 North Africa silver certificates are sometimes faked.
There are some ways to spot authentic 1934 $10 North Africa silver certificates. You should first check to see if the paper looks disturbed in the area of the note after “series of 1934.” To make a 1934 from a 1934A, all you have to do is erase or chemically remove the A. In person examination should help spot this. However, if you are looking at a scan there are still some tests to perform.
Authentic series of 1934 $10 North Africa notes have to have front plate number 116, 122, 123, 125, 126, or 127. All 1934 $10 yellow seal silver certificates have mule notes. So the front plate number and the back plate number have to be different sizes.
There is no official print run for authentic 1934 $10 North Africa notes. However, if the serial number is much higher than B07564000A, it unlikely that is the real deal. Please note the ten dollar North Africa notes started very high in the AA block, so a serial number like A92xxxxxxA could certainly be authentic.
A retail price for a circulated 1934 $10 North Africa silver certificate starts at $1,500. There are at least a couple dozen uncirculated examples. These tend to bring low five figures.
