Description:  The 1882 five dollar note pictured below is from Louisville.  However, your 1882 blue seal could be from just about any bank in the country.

Series of 1882 $5 notes were actually printed between 1908 and 1916.  So despite saying 1882, they are not that old.  There is also a full charter date written on each $5 bill.  That date has nothing to do when the bill was printed.

These notes are called 1882 date backs by collectors.  That is because the back of each of these has the date 1882 1908.  There is another note from 1882 that looks exactly the same on the front, but the back is different.

When valuing these notes, you need to focus on condition, bank of issue, and the serial number below James Garfield.  In most cases these notes are not very rare or valuable.  However, there are certainly exceptions to that rule.  Contact us for exact pricing.

Variations:  99% of people collect series of 1882 $5 bills based on the bank of issue.  However, there are two rare signature combinations for this note.  If your series of 1882 five dollar note is signed by Rosecrans and Morgan, or if it is signed by Vernon and McClung, then you what you have is rare.

Even if your bill isn’t signed by the people above, it could still be very collectible.  Send us a picture of what you have so we can tell you the actual collector value.
