Description:  At first glance, series of 1878 $5 bills can look very similar to notes from 1875.  In fact all five dollar legal tender notes printed between 1869 and 1907 look fairly similar.  They all have a type of red or brown seal and they all feature a woodchopper and his family.

Andrew Jackson is shown on the left hand side of the bill.  All 1878 five dollar bills also have red serial numbers.  Unfortunately, despite being a type of bill you don’t see very often, 1878 $5 bills are common in most grades.

Variations:  Unlike some other denominations from the series of 1878, there are no varieties for the 1878 five dollar bill.  All notes were signed by Allison and Gilfillan.  The only variations here will be between serial numbers, plate letters, and conditions.
