Oversized Five Thousand Dollar Bills – A Guide With Values
It is currently thought that there are only seven large sized five thousand dollar bills known to exist. Six of those bills are reported to be in government institutions. The only $5,000 bill in private hands is actually just a specimen note. So there are no large size five thousands, that are still legal tender, owned by the general public.
It is important to know that there are several fake $5,000 bills floating around. The one we see most often is from the series of 1918, and it has serial number G1A. The real serial number G1A is in a museum. The other serial numbers that are also in museums are B1A, B2A, D1A, and L1087A.
There are also reproductions of some gold certificates. Serial numbers M20625 and M26080 are both in museums.
The bad news is that if your $5,000 bill has any of the above serial numbers, then it is fake. The good news is that if you have a different serial number, then there is a decent chance what you have is real, and it will of course be very valuable. It is very possible that several large size five thousand dollar bills are tucked away in safety deposit boxes just waiting to be found.
Should you have an authentic $5,000, we would be thrilled to have the chance to make our offer. Send us an email to admin@oldcurrencyvalues.com for more information on your exact bill.
