Green Seal Twenty Dollar Bills (1928 – present) – Values and Pricing
Any $20 bill that has a green seal is known as a Federal Reserve note. We separate $20 bills as follows:
1928 – 1928A – 1928B – 1928C – 1934 – 1934A – 1934B – 1934C – 1934D – 1950 and Newer
Unfortunately, most $20 federal reserve notes are not going to be worth much more than $20 in most cases. This is simply due to the fact that they aren’t rare and they are expensive (in terms of face value) to collect. It takes a lot of $20 bills to have a complete set, and that is a lot of face value to tie up in a collection that isn’t very rare. There are plenty of exceptions to the rule though.
When looking at old green seal twenty dollar bills, you need to look for bills that are in uncirculated condition, or that have a serial number that ends with a star symbol. Star notes from 1928 are usually rare and collectible. $20 star notes from 1934 certainly have the chance to be valuable, but some are common. Star notes from 1950 and newer generally don’t carry much of a premium.
Any $20 bill with a serial number that starts with six or seven zeroes will command a premium.
